Q: My authorizations go through OK and I can manually connect to the host via FTP after starting the VPN client. However, when I try to transmit a settlement batch it fails to connect to the host.

A: The most common culprit under these circumstances is anti-virus software such as McAfee or Norton. Disable the software and try the settlements again.

Q: What settings do I need when using the Windows XP Firewall?

A: Creating the following three entires should work:

  1. Add the program "Global Payments VPN Client, ipsecdialer.exe" and allow to communicate with "Any computer (including those on the internet)"
  2. Open up UDP port 62515
  3. Open up UDP port 62514

Q: The modem is visible in the "Select a Modem" window but after I click on "OK" its description isn't displayed in the "Current Modem" column.

A: With all versions of Windows from 2000 forward it is necessary to restart Windows after installing a new modem. Windows TAPI (Telephone Applications Program Interface) is used to interface with modems. TAPI has this unfortunate behavior. Some programs, such as Symantec WinFax do not use TAPI and do not exhibit this behavior, which can lead to frustration and confusion until you realize you have to restart Windows after installing a new modem in order to make it fully functional with applications that utilize TAPI.

Q: I am having difficulty installing the VPN client on different workstations.

A: On versions of the program prior to 9/13/2004 (build 1373) the file path name for the VPN client had to be the same for each workstation. That meant if you, for some reason, installed the VPN client differently on one of the workstations you would not be able to properly configure it in the program. This problem was fixed in versions of the program dated 9/13/2004 or later (build 1373 or later).

Q: Can I install the program on Windows 2003 server?

A: Yes, either from a workstation or the server itself. In order to configure workstations create a shortcut that points to the level3.exe file in the shared directory where you installed the program. You can actually run the program from the server console, which is handy if you want to use the "Continuous Submission of Orders for Authorization" feature.

Q: Can I install the program on a Unix or Linux server?

A: Yes but you cannot run the program from the server console. The server will only be used to allow sharing of the data and program with Windows based workstations. Use a Windows workstation to install the program in a shared directory on the server. For the additional workstations create a shortcut pointing to the level3.exe file in the shared directory.

Q: What are the security risks with "split tunneling" when using the VPN?

A: The risks are all to the payment processors host that receives your authorization and settlement requests. Because they are fully aware and prepared for any intrusion attempts there really is no risk at all.

Q: How can I get a list of only transactions queued for settlement?

A: Go to Reports / Pending Settlement. Use a very early date such as "01/01/2000" for the beginning date and "12/31/2019" as the ending date; be sure to check the "Only Queued For Settlement" box. The resulting list will include all transactions queued for settlement. A similar procedure would be used for listing all transactions queued for authorization.

Q: After installing the VPN Client on a server I receive a warning that the vsdatnt.sys driver has been disabled because of incompatibilities.

A: This driver is part of the “stateful firewall” which does not work with Windows 2003 Server. The authors, Zone Alarm, have no intention of fixing the problem however the VPN Client works fine without the driver functioning. The unwanted warning can be eliminated by renaming the driver. Go to the “Windows\System32” directory and rename “vsdatnt.sys” to “vsdatnt.sys.renamed”.

Q: I need a "unit of measure" that prices by the thousand items. In the past we have always used "M" for the unit of measure and, for example, a quantity of 3,650 with a unit price of 5.50 will extend to $20.80.

A: You can add your own Unit Of Measure code by going to "Tables / Unit Of Measure". Click on "New", enter "M" for the "Unit Of Measure Code", "0.001" for the "Multiplication Factor", and any appropriate Description. When completed click on "Save". All line item detail use the "Units Of Measure" and "Multiplication Factor" by calculating extended prices as follows: Quantity Sold X Unit Of Measure Multiplication Factor X Selling Price. In the example given this would be: (a) 3,650 X .001 = 3.650 (b) 3.650 X 5.50 = $20.80 As an aside, you could change the Multiplication Factor in the existing TH or THOU Unit of Measure to 0.001 and use these instead of "M", so long as this doesn't cause you problems.

Q: We use the Internet and VPN Client for authorizations and settlements. The authorizations work but settlements fail.

A: Go to "Options / Host Access Connections" and click on the "Configure" button on the "Settlements" connection line where the Phone Number starts with "GPVPN". First make sure that the IP address following GPVPN.... is correct. Usually it is 64.69.204.25:21 and the contents of the entire field appear as "GPVPN64.69.204.25:21". If this is correct click on the "Configure" button on the same line. Most of the time the problem is with an incorrect Host Access User ID or Host Access Password. Make sure the contents of these fields are correct. The contents of the Location of VPN Client program is already correct if you are not having problems with authorization requests.

Q: If we submit authorizations using dialup can we settle using the Internet and VPN?

A: Yes, regardless of how authorizations were submitted, dialup or Internet, you can do the settlements using either dialup or the Internet. The only "gottcha" is if you submit settlements via the Internet you have to go to "Orders / Settle / Call Host For Results" to retrieve the results. If you settled via the Internet you have to retrieve the results via the Internet. Normally results are available within five to ten minutes.

Q: The program failed with an error that read "OLE error code 0x8007007e: The specified module could not be found".

A: This indicates that the registration of the components is not correct. This can be corrected by:

(a) Open a Command Prompt window.
(b) Navigate to the directory where Purchasing @dvantage PC is installed.
(c) Type in the command "register" and press the key.

If you are running Purchasing @dvantage PC from multiple workstations on a network you may have to do this at each workstation.

Q: The program is failing and displays a window with several lines of information. The first line starts with: Fatal error: Exception code=C00000FD . . .".

A: This is similar to the "OLE" error, typically indicating a failure to locate one of the program components because it is improperly registered. Usually the problem can be corrected in the same fashion:

(a) Open a Command Prompt window.
(b) Navigate to the directory where Purchasing @dvantage PC is installed.
(c) Type in the command "register" and press the key.

If you are running Purchasing @dvantage PC from multiple workstations on a network you may have to do this at each workstation.

Q: The program is installed on a file server with several workstations running the program from the shared resource. What can I do to speed up reports, they are running very very slow?

A: As installed all temporary files will be created on the shared resource which adds significantly to network overhead. This overhead can be decreased by having the temporary files located on each workstation. This can be accomplished in a two step fashion:

(a) There is a file named "config.fpw" in the directory where Purchasing @dvantage PC is installed. Edit this file (notepad will work fine) and add the following lines at the end:
    TMPFILES=c:\temp
    EDITWORK=c:\temp
    SORTWORK=c:\temp
    PROGWORK=c:\temp
(b) On each workstation where you run the program make sure that a directory named "temp" exists on the C: drive. For what its worth, you are not bound to the name "temp". For example, if you already have a directory for temporary files on the workstations named "work" then make the entries in the config.fpw file read "PROGWORK=c:\work" (and so forth for all the other entries).

This will significantly decrease the overhead and speed up the program in a network environment. The reports will still run more slowly when more people are using the application but there will be a noticable improvement.

Q: I receive an "out of BIN range" error for some AMEX cards.

A: You have to delete three redundant BIN entries for AMEX cards. Go to Tables / BIN Ranges / BIN Assignments. Delete the following BIN ranges, all of which are for AMX card types:

  Lower BIN Upper BIN
  378570 378579
  378590 378599
  378730 378739

Q: How do you process a return transaction?

A: A return is processed just like a sale, except you must change the order type to Return and put the authorization code in the authorization code field.  Remember, you only need to settle the return.  Authorizing is not needed for a return.

BACK TO TOP

Q: How do you process a force (post-auth) transaction?

A: A force sale is processed just like a sale, except you would have a pre-authorization code given to you by your voice authorization center or the card issuing bank. First, change the order type to Force and put the authorization code into the authorization code field. You then finish the sale like normal.  Remember, you only need to settle the force. Authorizing is not needed for a force sale.

Q: What is the Card Verification field and how do I use it?

A: This field is used to verify the CV2 code.  CV2 is on the back of all MasterCard and Visa cards (3-digit code on back of card) and it is located on the front of American Express cards (4digit code).  When doing a sale you would put the code into the Card Verification field and then change the CV Status to CVC Present.

BACK TO TOP

Q: What does the error Too many line Items mean?

A: This is caused when submitting an American Express card if Line Item Detail information was keyed on the sale. An American Express transaction should never have Line Item Detail information added to it. If you do an American Express transaction you should only add Order Comments.

Q: How do you install and setup the software on a server/workstation set up?

A: First you must do a complete install of the software on the server or shared drive. You then go to the workstation and map a drive to the P@PC+ software that you install on the server. Then find the P@PC+ executable icon and then right click on that icon and choose send to desktop as a new shortcut. Remember, if you are authorizing and settling from the workstation either the modem or VPN client must be installed and configured on the workstation.
